- I had the same problem connecting Motorolas 326x V.34 and ZyXels V.32bis.
- I believe that's because both V.34 and V.32bis protocols have adaptive
- features (i.e. before establishing connection they try to evaluate the
- line quality and choose proper transmission parameters).
- As a result, while Motorola ("V.34 Auto" Mode) was trying to quess the
- required protocol, ZyXel made attempts to optimize its parameters and
- that "duel of intellects" lasted till timeout. When I put Motorola
- into "V.32bis Auto" mode, all became ok.
